Educational buyer guide
How to evaluate an AI sales rep for a moving company.
Published August 27, 2026
A vendor-neutral buying framework for phone coverage, quoting, human handoffs, data controls, and compliant outbound use.
Short answer
An AI sales rep is valuable for a mover only when it can follow the company’s actual sales process: identify the call reason, collect useful move details, use approved knowledge and pricing rules, hand off to a person, and leave a reviewable record. Evaluate it as a supervised operational system—not as a promise of automatic revenue.
Buyer checklist
- Ask what happens when a caller requests a person, has an existing-job issue, or asks a question outside the assistant’s approved knowledge.
- Verify whether quotes use your configured pricing rules and what information is required before a written estimate is sent.
- Confirm where summaries, recordings (if enabled), lead data, inventory, estimates, and opt-outs are stored.
- Review inbound, missed-call, new-lead, and quote-follow-up triggers separately; they are different risk and consent scenarios.
- Assign an owner to test calls, update policies/FAQs, and review exceptions before and after launch.
Pilot before broad rollout
- Map calls. List new move inquiries, existing jobs, claims, vendor calls, and emergencies; choose the allowed path for each.
- Configure approved knowledge. Set service areas, specialty services, policies, FAQs, greeting, voice, transfer number, and hours.
- Test edge cases. Try unavailable dates, incomplete inventory, a human-transfer request, prohibited items, and a customer who opts out.
- Start with a bounded use. For example, use after-hours inbound coverage while an owner reviews records and handoffs.
- Expand only with evidence. Review outcomes and exceptions, then enable additional triggers if the process is operating as intended.
Vendor evaluation questions
Use these questions in a demo and document the answers.
- “Show me the human-transfer path, including what happens if nobody answers.”
- “Show me how a caller’s move details become a lead, estimate, and follow-up task.”
- “Which settings control voice, greeting, FAQs, service areas, policies, after-hours mode, and outbound triggers?”
- “How do you handle do-not-call requests and what records can my team review?”
- “Show a call that should not receive a final price or automated booking.”
AI buyer-guide lens: capability versus operating requirement
| Capability to evaluate | Operational requirement |
|---|---|
| Inbound answering | Company identity, call reason routing, and a human escalation path. |
| Estimate assistance | Configured rates, clear assumptions, and a process for revisions. |
| Outbound follow-up | Consent, opt-out handling, trigger controls, and compliance review. |
| CRM logging | Reviewable lead history, call outcome, ownership, and data-access controls. |
